DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic Violence

People don’t talk about domestic violence, but there are a lot of women that experience abuse in their marriage. In my country, domestic abuse is very common. Women are the most abused and also children. Wives are always pointed to be disrespectful, and it their fault if something goes wrong.
I was seventeen when I got married because I was pregnant. My father did not want me to get married so young, but I loved my husband and he loved me back; so I assured him that everything will be fine. My husband was eight years older than I, and was at the University. I had to go and live in the campus while we both go to school.

For six months, we were so happy, and everything started when he did not pass the entrance for the law school. He made me believe I was responsible for his failure. I was beaten that day and lost my baby( I was seven month pregnant). I want to my parents, and I was unable to tell them the truth. One week later, my husband came to pick me up, asked for forgiveness. The mistake I made that day was to go back with him, and it was the beginning of my nightmare. I was beaten all the time, I lost two pregnancies. My family knew after seven years of marriage, and my brother had to help to come here in USA.
The society where I came from is different from here. It is difficult to call the police for help. They might come or not. There are lot to do about domestic abuse, and people need to work together to erase it.

anti-muslim discrimination

     Anti-Muslin Discrimination

Anti-muslin discrimination has been progressed since ten years after September 11th, 2011. Much muslin

children were pointed in school, in the street, and sometimes in their home.
My first friend when I came in this country was from Saudi Arabia. She and her older brother were born in their country, and her sister and brother here in USA. Ania got married when she was sixteen years old. With her religion and culture, she had to wear long skirt, a shirt that covers all her body, and veal in her head to hide her hair. She told me when she was in high school that she was all the time alone, nobody to talk to at school. Girls used to talk about her behind her back. Her older brother got into a fight because he was called “killer”. Her little sister was coming home from school crying because her school mate removed her veal.

I don't deny that muslin culture is very harsh and weird, and sometimes we can discriminate them from us. But I don't beleive it is right to call a muslin kid "Ben Laden" or "Killer" in school because they are not responsible about their parents' actions. Everybody has the right to wear whatever you want to, and a teacher that discriminate in class is not considere a good teacher. He suppose to teach good manners not create separation between students.

week 3 sociology 101

WEEK3: Stratification, Social Mobility, and Inequality

Many factors contribute at inequality such as social inequality, invention, discovery, education, and wealth distribution in the world. Because that developed countries are in control of poor countries.

My topic of discussion is on micro level, and concerns many Africans who came in this country because they want to find peace, better life for their children and their family.
I have a friend who was doctor in his country, and because he could not practice in his country, he came here in US with his family. Joseph was 35 years at that moment, and he wanted to practice. He went to find a job, and it was like all the doors were close for him. They refused his license practice, and asked him to go back to school if he wants to be a doctor. He faced the challenge of finding a job as soon as possible to provide for his family. He started to work at McDonald, and because the pay was not enough, he had a second job. Joseph did not forget his practice, and at the time, he did not have money to go back to school. Supporting the family and getting relevant education required time and efforts for all immigrants in this country. After, 10 years in this country, Joseph had the opportunity to pay his school, and started practicing after three years. Regardless everything, immigrants understand the power of education. Therefore, they send their children to school for higher education, better career and better life.

To sum up equality can be possible if humans rights can be established in the world, if people can considered themselves equal to others. For example in this picture we can see a home less man, sitting on the floor, people are passing by and no one pay attention to him because of inequality around us.

sociology week 2

Sociology:   WEEK TWO

                                                   Television

Television is one of mass media people watch very often, families, young people and old generation. I came from a country where there were only few channels, not many choices to watch, and here I was amazed with many shows that became my favorite at a daily basis. I was influenced by images and advertizing. I was influenced by the preoccupations with outside image, and extremely concerned about the way they are seen by others.
I n television most of the time, the image of women are presented in the formation of women’s body images. Women are presented extremely thin models which can promote such eating disorders as bulimia and anorexia. Television provides its audiences an unrealistic and often unhealthy image of the beauty of the women. All the women become concerned about

Their outside appearance trying to imitate the beauty of women they see. This picture shows the beauty of the woman, and it is seen in television, post card, and calendar.
The media and technology are heavily influencing many teenagers, and resulting in lowered self esteem and confidence, increase violence, expanded use of alcohol smoking and drugs. The mass media has changed society as a whole; in the positive manor, but more so with negative regards. People are dying for anorexia and bulimia trying to attain some ideal body image that is created on TV. Many males are becoming extremely insecure with their body appearance as media increases the emission of standard and idealize well-built men. From teenage boys, Many turn to the use of anabolic steroids.
Mass media, Television have   a negative influence over pre-adolescents and adolescents because it creates distorted self image,, encourages violence, contains very explicit sexual content and also promotes the use of drugs. Because all of this factors that were aforementioned there should be an increase in the number of educational programs and restriction of harmful emission.

                     Arranged marriage
Years ago in my country and culture, many marriages were arranged by families. The culture wanted the father of the young girl to choose a husband for his daughter with or without her consent and no matter the husband’s age. At twelve years old, the young girl was sent to her new husband’s family to learn how to live with him, and tried to know each other. Two years later, the marriage was celebrated even if the husband could be her father. Now the question is to know if this kind of arrangement still existed, and how the society reacted then and now.
I remembered my grand mother told me that she got married when she was twelve years old. She did not know anything about marriage, and everyday she was trying to escape to go back to her family. At that time, my grand father was thirty seven years old, and the marriage was arranged between both families. My grand mother had to obey, and every time she escaped, she was sent back to her husband. Not only my country, many marriages were arranged in many different countries, and back then it was kind of normal. The society did not care whether the girl is in love or not, or wanted to choose her own husband

This picture showed us that in Amish community, this kind of marriage still existed. the family in the young girl in the right, sending away to the husband in her left. I don’t agree with this social behavior, because everybody needs to make his or her own choices, and makes his or her own mistakes.
